I am Chris Wise, a 21 year old artist from Brooklyn, NY. I make raw, honest hip-hop to satisfy the drought. My life is dedicated to making a better way for young black people and my music is a medium to reach them with positive, alternative flavors outside of what is pumped by the mainstream media. 5 years from now, I want every Black youth in Brooklyn to have at least one of my songs in their library.
This demo consists of my 5 best tracks, curated by Shapri. I chose the name X for several reasons:
X refers to the unknown or undefined. Every day, I quest for knowledge of self and an understanding of my place in the grand scheme of life.
The Autobiography of Malcolm X is the book that sparked my personal evolution toward consciousness at 16. He is a shining example for me and anyone else who’s been through some dark history on how to get life right.
I’ve been compared to DMX probably about 200 times in the course of my short career. Between the vocals on Plantation Politics and my hyper stage presence, I understand it. Sidebar, I cried for X at the end of his Iyanla special. We – the black community – need to address mental health issues more vocally and more frequently!
The purpose of X is to re-engage with my community and to let the world know that I am here to contribute to the hip-hop culture.
My ask: Please listen to X, share your feedback with me, and then most importantly, please pass along the project to some hip-hop heads that you think should hear what I have. I am available at firstname.lastname@example.org or 718-878-4677 to answer questions, build on youth empowerment, or if you’d like to put me onto dope vegan food recipes or spots in New York City.
I got you & I love you.
Peace everyone! Here is the uncut footage from my performance at The Loft Talent Showcase in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. This show was the first stop on The End Poverty Tour!
